how to change a diaper 101…..and a drop?
Well, we had our infant care class today, where we got to learn about, for the most part, the first month of taking care of Noah. We covered everything from diaper changing to bathing to how to swaddle the baby in a blanket to food and first aid. It’s been about oh, 15 years since I’ve done anything with a kid (I used to change my youngest brother’s diapers when he was young) so it was a nice refresher. That does it for the classes. Now the waiting.
But while we’re waiting, Emily has noticed that she has started to “drop” – i.e. Noah is starting his descent into her pelvis. She showed me 2 pictures and I have to say, the shape of her belly has changed; it wasn’t as much of a drop as I’ve seen in other pictures, but I think something is there. We’re going to take another picture tonite for comparison.
The nursery and bathroom are ready to go as Emily counts the number of Braxton-Hicks contractions she has each day. Nice to see her body is paying attention and getting ready
We go in for a checkup on Tuesday – more then!

Furniture!
The nursery now has furniture! The movers came this morning and put together the crib and set up the crib and changing table as we wanted it. Pictures can be found here. Now Emily only has about 4 hours of putting away clothes (the kid has a lot of clothes!)

We can now have a child
OK, just kidding. But we did finish our 2nd of 2 childbirth classes on Sunday, and got our little certificate saying as much. Coming up next weeks – Breastfeeding class, but before that we have the shower in Columbia – more then!

For once, an entry not related to a checkup
Well, we had 2 big events over the last few days. On Thursday, we got a tour of the Howard County General Hospital Labor and Delivery department (go here for your own virtual tour). It was renovated a few years ago, and looks very nice. We’re very exicted that this is where Noah will be brought into the world.
In other news, today we had our first of 2 6-hour ChildBirth classes. In today’s class we learned about signs of labor, stages of labor, and relaxation and breathing techniques. I learned some things, and of course, got to watch some videos.
We have an infant CPR class later in the week, and part 2 of the ChildBirth class next Sunday. We have a checkup Wednesday – more news then!
